La Familia Cortez Community Health Program: Update COVID-19

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19 virus. The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the following are the CDC recommendations for everyday preventive actions to avoid the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay at home if you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

In addition to the precautions above, we want to share with you some of the steps our restaurants have taken (and are taking) to prevent the spread of illness:

  • Serve Safe and Food Handlers certifications, as required
  • Reminding Team Members to stay home when ill and communicate with their Manager
  • Reinforce these communications during Alley Rally’s
  • Increased restaurant sanitation procedures, including cleaning tables with single-use wipes, installation of hand sanitizer in high-traffic areas and weekly inspection of wear-washing equipment by a certified technician
  • Communication with the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District on a regular basis to remain informed and receive up-to-date guidance
  • Monitor Team Member health and absenteeism trends to assess overall Team Members health
